ABOUT MIKAH

Raised by two Ecuadorian-born parents in Hudson County, New Jersey, Mikah’s earliest memories were soundscapes— music floating in from the kitchen on Sunday mornings, dancing on their father’s feet, tuning radio frequencies on car rides.

Bachata, merengue, salsa, reggaeton, cumbia, cha cha chá, Latin pop, boleros ecuatorianos— they listened to it all, night and day, for years.

They were fortunate enough to be raised in densely Hispanic- and Latine-populated towns. Mikah’s doctors, nurses, teachers, classmates, and neighbors were all hispanohablantes. They have created theater- and music- with folks from all walks of life.

Mikah is a firm believer in live audio’s capacity for change. They are deeply passionate about new works that explore societal hierarchy, gender roles, power, assimilation, and identity.

He is proud to be part of the 2% of non-binary, transgender, and femme-presenting sonic artists within the sound design industry. Recognizing the need for greater gender diversity, he is committed to mentoring the next generation of emerging sound designers, audio engineers, and composers.

Mikah has had the privilege of working with IATI Theater, The Flea Theater, and Teatro SEA as a freelance audio/visual technician, soundboard operator, and A2. Through their work with IATSE Local 59, they’ve also worked with large-scale stadiums and arena productions as local crew for some of the most recognizable names in music— Drake, Missy Elliot, Mary J. Blige, Blake Shelton, Justin Timberlake, Travis Scott, and Anuel AA.

Recent productions include JULIE (Sound Designer/Composer) at Shall See Theater, BLACQUE ANTHOLOGIES (Co-Sound Designer/Composer), MACHINAL (Sound Designer/Composer) at Fordham University, THE GRAY HOUSE (Sound Designer/Composer) at the New York Theater Festival, and THE TEMPEST (Assist. Sound Designer) at Fordham University.

Currently, they are pursuing their B.A. in Sound Design at Fordham University. They expect to graduate in May 2027.
